When one of your life goals is to empower others, a sense of fulfillment is always a conversation away.

Ting Barnard, a board member of the Papitto Opportunity Connection (POC), continues to reach out to the many communities of Rhode Island and provide opportunities for those who often go unheard and unappreciated.

True to Ting’s life mission of inspiring others through hope, her recent press appearances on NBC 10 News and Newport Daily News speak to the foundation’s Transform Rhode Island Scholarship, an initiative fueled by the goal of creating positive change with the help of Lil Rhody’s upcoming leaders.

This scholarship will provide the first-place winner with $25,000 and a budget of $1,000,000 to enact an idea they presented in the form of an essay. It will also provide thousands of dollars to the runners-up.

In an instance like this, a million dollars can go a long way in making quite a splash and creating a ripple effect that can help many Rhode Islanders for years to come.

Ting and POC believe that pledging their efforts an opportunity like this one to youth in grades 9-12, who are on the cusp of applying to/attending college, is another great way to push our state towards more progressive actions that benefit Black, Indigenous, and people of various other ethnicities who have been generationally disadvantaged in America. It continues to align with POC’s mission to improve our state in areas of education, skills training, business, healthcare, and housing.

The final date to submit an essay for the groundbreaking scholarship is January 31st, 2022.
